Maureen & Michael Banner silversmiths Monterey Massachusetts in the Berkshires

Completely functional vessels of sterling silver and jewelry are made of sterling silver or gold. The works are hand wrought using traditional silversmithing tools and techniques. Enchanted by the creative process of designing a new piece, we debate, brainstorm, draw - together. Silver moving and joining is challenging. Functional works are tricky to make using traditional, low-tech tools and techniques. Adoring silver smithing, the more complex and exacting the construction, the more fun it is. Cut, anneal, hammer, wire solder, file, polish. Next! See the profile in  Silver Magazine.

Judaica

"The vessels of Michael and Maureen Banner resemble nothing so much as the perennial flowers that surround their rural Massachusetts home and studio. Sturdy and knotty at the base, the silver forms rise in graceful, arching plumes to aspire to the sky. More organic than representational, these vessels distill the gestures and lines of the natural world."

Pins & Pendants

Maureen's sculptural jewelry is equally graceful, whether formed in sterling silver, 18k gold, or gold-plated sterling silver. Some necklaces, pins and ear rings are unique:  inspired by special semi-precious stones or hand-blown glass beads. Others, particularly the competitively priced gift items, can be reproduced.

Show schedule

The best place to see our work is at the high quality, juried craft shows that we attend and at the Barry Friedman Gallery in New York City.  A couple of years ago, Home and Garden TV featured us in their modern masters series and this is occasionally rebroadcast.

Banner tea pot on cover of collector Garth Clark's The artful teapot Books & Articles

This link leads to books and articles that reference our work and show pictures of our hollowware: tea pots and services, coffee pots and services, menorahs and other Judaica. We were proud to have one of our teapots grace the cover of  Garth Clark's book, "The Artful Teapot" about the Kamm collection which has been on view in various museums across the U.S.A.
